EXERCISE

ONCOLOGY

Exercise Oncology uses exercise therapy to assist people who are diagnosed with cancer. It is a critical component of a cancer patients clinical treatment, helping them manage their health and wellbeing pre- treatment, during and well into survivorship.

It is imperative that each individual receives tailored advice, an individualised program and structured support to allow them to exercise safely and effectively for their condition. This is where our Exercise Physiologists can help. At LifeInMotion we will work with you and your support network to ensure you achieve the best possible outcomes throughout your cancer diagnosis and beyond.

How can exercise help in the treatment of cancer?

  • Suppress tumour growth and actively help fight cancerous cells as a result of exercise induced protein (myokines) secretion in the blood stream

  • Boost your immune system to improve the body’s ability to fight off cancer cells naturally

  • Improved ability to direct medicine to the tumour

  • Reduce the severity of treatment related side-effects and symptoms such as fatigue, muscle loss, swelling, reduced cardiovascular fitness, anxiety and depression

  • Enhance your well-being and quality of life

At LifeInMotion we treat individuals with all different cancer backgrounds and in particular, are proud providers of the EliFIT Exercise program for men affected by prostate cancer.

  • A fully funded exercise support program for any male with prostate cancer who is on the hormone therapy ‘Eligard’.

This is delivered by our Accredited Exercise Physiologists who will work closely with your specialist team in order to provide a holistic and effective treatment plan.

    LifeInMotion’s EliFIT program typically includes

    • 1x initial consultation where we will gain an understanding of your health journey, cancer treatment, medical history, physical and wellbeing goals, as well as perform functional and strength assessments.

    • 8x group exercise sessions where you will perform an individualised program specific to your condition, treatment and goals

  • If your specialist has provided medical consent for you to begin an exercise program and you are already being prescribed ELIGARD, speak to your specialist or prostate cancer nurse who can enrol you in the program.

Alternatively, if you need any assistance or want to discuss your eligibility, please call our clinic.
