MUSCULOSKELETAL

REHABILITATION

Combined with evidence based treatment, advanced rehab equipment and an individually tailored exercise program, our Exercise Physiologists are key to helping you return to the lifestyle, sport or job you love.

Exercise rehabilitation and pre-habilitation are both essential programs that aim to restore, maintain and further develop strength, function and endurance following a musculoskeletal injury or health diagnosis. By engaging in a physical rehab and education program with our Exercise Physiologists you can optimise overall recovery, improve surgical outcomes, prevent injury and enhance your confidence.

Pre-habilitation focuses on preparing the body for surgery or activity/sport and plays a important role in injury prevention, while post surgery rehabilitation involves a progressive, tailored program to rebuild strength, restore movement and range of motion, correct biomechanical deficits and develop confidence in returning to everyday life and activity.

Not only do both types of programs include a physical component but your mental wellbeing also needs to be taken into consideration. At LifeInMotion we believe that a self-determined, proactive mind provides the highest level of motivation and commitment. Therefore we focus on providing education to empower individuals of all capabilities, to take control of their health and fully understand the purpose of their treatment plan.

We can help treat:

  • Sports related injuries

  • Back pain including disc bulge, discectomy and muscle strains

  • Arthritis

  • Knee pain including ACL rehab, meniscus issues

  • Osteoporosis & Osteopenia

  • Joint replacement and reconstruction rehabilitation

  • Rotator cuff and shoulder dislocation injuries

  • Neck pain

  • And many more…

  • Pre-habilitation or Pre-hab is an essential component to surgery preparation. It involves improving someones strength, fitness and movement to optimise their physical function and enhance their overall recovery by

    • Improved surgical outcomes: Pre-hab can help to reduce complications during and post surgery by optimising physical function and managing any additional co-morbidities

    • Reduced recovery time: By strengthening muscles and improving functional movement pre-surgery, your body is able to often adapt better to your post surgery rehab program. This is seen through quicker progression, less pain and/or discomfort with exercise.

    • Reduced pain levels: The stronger the surrounding muscles of the surgical site and the greater mobility at the associated joints pre surgery, the more comfortable your recovery period will be and the greater ease of movement.

    • Increased confidence: Pre-hab not only works on your physical ability but also aims to empower you with the knowledge and skills required to be proactive in your recovery plan. Being confident in your pre-surgical function and capability will positively impact your experience and mental preparedness.

  • Pre-habilitation can also refer to a ‘pre-participation’ or ‘injury prevention’ program focused on preparing you for an activity or sporting event.

We all know injuries can happen when we are physically active and sometimes these unfortunate events are out of our control. Performing an injury prevention program will focus on correcting biomechanical deficits and reduce modifiable injury risk factors.

Taking into account your past injury history, physical fitness levels and the activity or sport you are training for and, an injury prevention program will include

    • progressive strength programming to combat muscle weakness and endurance

    • Posture and core stability

    • Power development specific to the sport related movements/skills

    • Proprioception and neuromuscular training for enhanced movement control

    • Sport specific skill development i.e correct running and jump/landing technique

  • Rehabilitation post surgery or injury is essential in order to restore and further build strength, movement function and confidence.

A rehabilitation treatment plan at LifeInMotion will involve:

    • An initial 1:1 consultation which includes

      • Discussion of your pre-injury activity level and lifestyle, surgery overview, medical history and individual goals

      • Functional movement and strength assessments appropriate to your injury/ surgical procedure and rehab stage

      • Discussion of treatment plan and progression, including identifying the most appropriate program modality (1:1, group class, home program, hydrotherapy etc)

    • Development of an individualised program tailored to your rehab requirements and goals

    • A follow up 1:1 consultation to go through your program

    • 4-8 weeks of program performance with a 1:1 review at the end of each rehab stage. These review consultations are critical in being able re-assess your movement function and strength and make appropriate progressions allowing you to move safely and effectively through your rehab.
